朝の気温が氷点下１５度を下回るなか、千歳川の水中を覗いてきました。ホッチャレが静かに沈む水中に、1匹だけ、生きている親ザケを見つけました。

While the temperature in the morning fell below -15 degrees, I looked into the water of the Chitose River. There is only one alive parent chum salmon in quiet underwater as anchor.

（追記）この2日後、同じ場所で５匹ほどの生きているサケが目撃されました。

2018年にサケの産卵環境回復工事が行われた豊平川の分流で、サケ稚魚を見つけました。この分流には、工事の直後の9月からサケが入り、今回稚魚を見つけた付近でも産卵していました。

We found the first juvenile chum salmon of Toyohira river in this season at the restored area for spawning last year. From Sep. as after the restoration, Chum salmon spawned in this small stream.

8月に夏サケが産卵していた千歳川は、年が明けた今、冬サケの産卵が続いています。サケたちが泳ぐ姿を確認したあと、流れ込む湧水を調べてみると、浮上した稚魚たちが集まっていました。最後の役割を果たそうとする親魚と砂利から浮上した稚魚ばかりの稚魚が交差しています。

At Chitose river, Aug. is the time for spawning of summer run Chum salmon, and now is for winter run Chum salmon. On the other hand,  there are babies of Chum salmon in the spring water. The two different generation are crossing over.

年を越した豊平川の河原はどんどん雪が深くなっています。産卵環境改善区間で泳いでいるサケは2匹だけになりました。命は砂利の下の卵に引き継がれます。

At the river side of Toyohira river, it is hard to walk becouse of much snow. Only two salmon remain in the restored stream. The life will be took over by the eggs under the gravel soon.

2019 Jan. 7

2019年が始まりました。豊平川の水穂大橋と東橋の間の産卵環境回復区間とすぐ下流には、年を越したサケたちがいました。割とフレッシュなオスもいます。

2019 has come. At recovery area for spawning and a little downstream, some salmon entered a new year. There is a fresh male salmon among them.
