ニホンザリガニは、開発にさらされ数を減らし、さらに、売買の対象としても人間に追い詰められているようです。「守りたくても、いると言った途端に取られる」現状に、札幌市円山動物園が目指す飼育繁殖技術の確立と流水ビオトープ設置による生息地の復元は大きな意味を持ちます。

サケの産卵場回復のため、流れを復活させた豊平川の分流にサケの遡上が続いています。11月の最終日、産卵の瞬間に遭遇。大都市で命をつなぐ野生を目の当たりにしました。

Chum Salmon are still coming to recovery trial area of Toyohira river for spawning. At the last day of Nov. I could shoot the spawning moment as wildlife in the downtown area.

産卵間近のメスのまわりに集まったオスたちのポジション争いは、もっともフレッシュなオスがいい位置に入って決着。でも産卵が始まったとたんに…。野生の遺伝子の多様性はこの意外性にありそうです。

The most fresh male got the pole position on the race for spawning. But when the spawning began, that male lost his way. It would be the reason for diversity of wild gene. 

2018 late Nov.

岩手県大槌町を流れる小鎚川のサケは工事現場の横で産卵していました。なんだかあずましくない様子ですが、川底を見ると、頃合いの良さげな小石がたくさん。きっと生みやすいんですね。

At Kozuchi river in Otsuchi town,Iwate Chum salmon choosed the side of the construction site for spawning. Not so comfatable? Gravel must be more important to them than silence.

2018年11月下旬、岩手県大槌町の小鎚川を訪ねました。この時期は、サケの遡上最盛期。2011年の東日本大震災以来、小鎚川では孵化稚魚の放流は行われていません。小鎚川で生まれたサケたちが命をつないでいます。

At Kozuchi river, late Nov. is the high season of chum salmon's spawning. In this river, juvenile releasing was stopped after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. So they must be wild salmon born in Kozuchi river.

メスの斜め後ろのベストポジションについたオスを見つけました。産みそうで産まないメスのそばで、チャンスを逃さないための努力が続きました。

I found the male salon which was at the best position for spawning with female salmon. But it was also beginning of fight to get the chance for him.

9月下旬、室蘭市を流れるチマイベツ川の中流はサケまみれになっていました。産卵によさそうな小砂利があるところには必ずサケ。川を歩くのもたいへんでした。

In the end of Sep. the middle part of Chimaibetsu river was covered with salmon. It was very hard to find the way to go through the river without kicking these salmon.

南富良野町といえば、イトウとの共生を目指す「イトウ保護条例」を持つ町です。空知川の小さな分流をのぞいてみると、すぐにイトウの稚魚を見つけることができました。町の人のイトウへの思いが形になっているんですね。

尻別川のイトウ、オビラメの復活を目指す「オビラメの会」が、尻別川由来の稚魚をニセコ町と倶知安町の支流に再導入しました。あわせて1040匹、成長が楽しみです。

"Obirame no kai", the group which tries to recover native Japanese huchen = Obirame, reintroduced 1040 juveniles to tributaries of Shiribetsu river in Kutchan town and Niseko town.

琴似発寒川で3匹のサケたちを見かけました。このうちペアになっているオスはやる気まんまん。でもどうも様子がおかしい。見ているうちに3番目の魚がちょっかいを出し始めて…。三角関係の行方は⁉︎

This is the story about 3 salmons at Kotoni-hassamu river. It is the mysterious triangle of wildlife and spawning. After 3 hours filming, what we can see at the bottom of river?

「人のチカラで」の続編です。豊平川で、産卵場回復を狙って流れを復活させた分流に、さっそくサケが入りました。産卵行動と産卵床も確認できました。

This is the continuation of "recovering spawning area". Chum salmon came to small stream as trial area for spawning. They also made spawning bed. 2018 Sep.16

9月上旬、豊平川でサケの産卵環境を再生する工事が行われました。入口が閉塞してしまった分流の土砂を掘って流れを回復させ、サケが産卵できるようにする試みです。つづく。

New trial was started to recover spawning area in Toyohira river from early Sep. Digging the earth and sand take away the lid of small stream, and makes its flow again. To be continued.

9月27日に登別市の富岸川の様子を見にいったところ、魚道が土砂で埋もれていました。サケ・サクラマスの遡上・産卵シーズンに、山あいに入って２つ目のダムの魚道が潰れる形で、ここから上流へはいけません。富岸川はヤマメのたくさんいる小河川です。来年の稚魚は大幅に減ると予想されます。

千歳川には8月からサケがのぼってきます。卵の時期と稚魚の時期を入れると、この付近にサケがいないのは7月だけ！？

産卵場回復のため、2017年に掘削で流れがもどった分流は、7月の大水で砂利が入り口を塞いでしまいました。それでも小さな流れが残り、ウグイの稚魚たちの憩いの場になっていました。

The branch flow for recovering spawning area was changed by big flood in July. Now it is so small stream but give the favorite place to japanese dace babies.

夏の空知川の支流にイワナたちの姿を探しました。小さな流れを慎重に進めば、育ち盛りの魚たちと出会えます。

I looked for char in the tributary of the Sorachi River in the summer. Carefully progressing a small flow, you can meet the growing fish.

夏の増水は、サクラマスにとっては遡上するチャンス。普段は通れない場所も高い水位で通過できる可能性が出てくるからです。でも都会では違います。

High water in the summer helps Masu Salmon to go up. But Urban life is very hard for them.

When I entered the river from the forest road in Shiraoi town, it was a mouse that had eyes. Just before, Ezo sable crossed the car.

琴似発寒川のヤマメは夏にどうしているのか、様子を見て来ました。群れていたのは魚道の一番上の深み。餌を取るにはよいスピードの流れのようです。

In the summer, masu salmon are swimming at the exit of the fish way. The depth and flow speed could be nice to them.

The summer of 2018 is very hot. Then I tried exploring the mountain stream of Hiyama and there were fish in the summer born there.

去年、機械で掘削して流れを取り戻し、産卵環境を回復させた豊平川の区間は、大水で動いた石で埋まりました。自然の撹乱でもあります。

The water pass which made for recovery of  spawning area, were closed by Flood. This is also natural disturbance.

West Japan is terrible rain. Hokkaido is also a year of rain without ever. How the fishes were escaping high water ?

このところ札幌は雨が多くて琴似発寒川は濁りがち。それでも、それぞれの場所を見ると、それぞれの魚たちが見つかります。

Because of rain, Kotonihassamu-river is  muddy. Still when you look at each place, you can find each fish.
